The James Webb Space Telescope is an amazing feat of engineering and will open up the skies for astronomers and physicists in a way never before experienced. Celebrate this milestone of space science with a cookie cutter shaped liked the JWST mirror.
With collaboration from NASA, the ESA and CSA, the James Webb Space Telescope has a 6.5m (21ft) diameter mirror — nearly 6x larger than the Hubble! The JWST will be stationed at the Sun-Earth Lagrange point, approximately 1,500,000 km away from the Earth and will be able to see light emitted only 100,000 years after the Big Bang. It also has a five-layer sunshield, with each layer being as thin as a human hair and 14m x 21m in area – incredible! Also amazing is that the whole thing folds up to fit into the nosecone of a conventional rocket and then will unfold with incredible precision into its final form.
Each cookie cutter is made to order from Food Safe PLA. This material is a plant-based biopolymer made from 100% renewable resources.
